As mentioned previously, this variation is the most famous one. The reason behind is not only the fact that it is the most loved one among players, but also most tournaments use this type as well. Another reason for Texas Hold’em being the most famous is that it is the easiest one to learn. Regardless of the fact that it is really easy for beginners to start with, this one is a great one for professionals as well.
In Texas Hold’em, you will be given two-hole cards in face down position and will wait for five community cards to be revealed in the middle of the table. You can use two of your own cards and any of the five community cards. The aim is to create the best 5-card poker hand. You can create the following combinations (hands) which are almost always the same for all kinds of poker games.
The betting takes place in four rounds. The first when the hole cards are dealt when the first three community cards are actually shown to players, after the fourth community card is shown and once the last one is flipped.
Omaha Hi or Omaha
Omaha shares a lot of similarities with Texas Hold’em. Omaha is played with two to ten players and like Texas Hold’em there are four betting rounds. However, the difference is that you will be dealt only four cards and five community cards are dealt but immediately shown to players. The aim is the same, to create 5-card poker hand (combination) of the highest value.
Omaha Hi-Lo
This category is very similar to Omaha Hi, as you can guess from the name. However, there is a big difference between these two variations. In Omaha Hi-Lo, just like Omaha Hi, you need to create one combination or hand with highest poker value. The only difference is that you need to form one more hand with the lowest poker value. Other than that, all the other rules of Omaha Hi apply for Omaha Hi-Lo.
