Roulette is one of the most famous games worldwide. It is being played for decades already. What is the reason behind that? Well, the thing is that it is actually possible to win a game there. The fun thing about roulette is that even if you are betting with the lowest possible betting amount, there still is a chance of winning a big amount of money. Since this article is for beginners, we are here to make sure that once you read it, you will know how to play roulette right away.
The game is not hard, the logic behind is just one: all you want is for the ball to land on your number. Since this seems easy, you might think that anyone can play it, but there is more to come for roulette that you might need to know before playing. Here we will talk about basic rules of roulette, bets and payouts, as well as some extra information that you might need assuming you are a beginner.
Basic Rules of Roulette
You might think that it is really easy to master playing roulette, and we must say you are not mistaken. However, it’s not just a matter of predicting where the ball will land.
The roulette wheel has a large outer rim on which the ball is spun and several pockets where the ball will actually land. Your main goal is to predict where exactly your ball will land. The pockets range from 1 to 36, two colored, half of them is red the other half are black.
There is also another pocket which is colored green, which is 0, an on some roulette variations, you also may see an additional green pocket which is double zero (00).
You will place your bets on the playing board obviously before the wheel spins. You actually can also place multiple bets at the same time, depending what you can afford. But please remember not to go beyond your wise budget. Since we are assuming that you are a beginner, we advise you to start with only one bet at a time. Whenever you have the experience and the confidence, you can then start doing multiple bets.
Once the bets are in, the ball is placed in the wheel as we described previously. The wheel will start spinning until the ball falls into one of the pockets. If the bet matches where the ball lands, you win according to the roulette table odds, and if your prediction does not turn out to be correct, you lose your bets, and you can start the game again.
Roulette Bets and Payouts
As you have already read, the basic rules are not actually hard, you can easily master them. However, you need some more information to become a good player or a pro for the game. The bet types are broken down into two categories: inside bets and outside bets. Based on how risky you want to play, you will choose between those two categories.
Inside Bets
If you are a risk-taker, then inside bets could match your gameplay. Generally, these bets come with higher payouts! Here are the inside bets that you can make:
- Straight up – When you make one bet on a single number that that’ll pay 35-1
- Split – A double number bet pays 17 to 1
- Street – If you place three bets across three different numbers, your bet can pay 11-1
- Corner bet – This covers a square of four numbers next to each other and will give you 8-1 odds
- Six line – Covers six numbers and pays 5-1 odds.
Outside Bets
However, an outside bet can give you a better overall chance of winning, but the odds are reduced. Here are the outside bets:
- Column bet – Twelve numbers in a row will pay out 2-1
- Odd/Even – All numbers are covered under this bet, but a zero will count as a loss for both bets. You’ll win even money if your number wins.
- Red/Black – Similar to above, you will win even if the ball lands on the color pocket that you predicted
- 1-18 / 19-36 – You can bet on a number between these two brackets and if you win, you’ll win even.
Since you are a beginner, you can start with a simple way. As you play you will become more and more confident and professional for the specific game. Once you know more about the game and feel more confident, you can start experimenting with different bets. You will eventually figure out which one of those work best for you.
